Is it possible to take classes part time so I can hold a job also? If so, what is the difference in the amount of time it would take to complete the track?

Brittany, students in our online MSW program take one course at a time (every 8 weeks). Many of our students work full-time or part-time to maintain their living expenses.

How long would it take to complete the MSW if I were to take one class every 8 weeks?

Is it possible to start the MSW program online and move to the traditional, on-campus program as circumstances allow?

Jeanna, unfortunately, this typically is not an option that is available. There must be extenuating circumstances that occur in order for a student to transfer from online to on-campus or vice versa. The timeline and course load is very different for each program, so it is very difficult to transfer a student over.

I have everything I need to apply except for the human biology course. I have found a college where I may be able to take the course this summer. However, the course ends on Aug. 11 and applications for the MSW program are due on July 20. What are the odds I will be allowed into the program since I will have completed the course by the time classes begin?

I have an undergraduate final GPA of 2.47 (was a single mom holding down a job, did the best I could). However I am currently in a Master’s program online at a different university and currently have a 2.97 GPA. What chance do I have of being accepted into the program? FYI I currently work for Child Protective Services and want to make this my career – so I don’t want to continue a MA in Prof. Counseling if I can get an MSW.

Melody, if your GPA is lower than a 3.0, there are two ways that you can help your chances of being accepted. One way is to have 5 or more years of experience in the social work field. Another way is to have taken a couple of graduate level courses in a related area of study and maintained a 3.0 average.

If either of these situations are true, then your chances of being accepted with increase greatly.

Do you have a spring class for the Masters of Social Work program? And if so, what is the application deadline, registration deadline, and when do classes start?

Shanta, we do offer classes that begin January 11, 2012. The application deadline has not been set as of yet; however, typically it falls around the end of October.

      Natalie,

Thank you for your recent question on the UNE MSW website. The University of New England is regionally accredited through the New England Association of Schools and College and the Master of Social Work program is accredited through the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). If you would like to learn more about your own state requirements for licensure in social work, please visit the Association of Social Work Boards: http://www.aswb.org/

The traditional MSW program completion time is approximately 4 years. Can one complete the program earlier?

      UNE ADMISSIONS - July 20th, 2011 at 02:22pm

      Debbie,

The program is designed so that our students take just 1 course every 8 weeks. At this point, there is no option for doubling up on courses. The only option to finish the program a bit sooner would be to be approved by the Program Director to take courses during the field placements. This is not guaranteed and students must be excelling in their coursework to petition to the Program Director. If approved, a student could finish the program 2 semesters early.

I am curious why this program takes 4 years when other MSW programs can be completed in 2. I have a B.A. degree (not in social work). For those who already have an undergraduate degree…can we complete the program in 2 years?

      Robin,

In the past, many individuals requesting information on UNE were unaware that our online graduate students take only one 8-week course at a time. This way, UNE students are able to:

      – Focus on one assignment, discussion board and professor at a time
      – Complete the practicum separate from the coursework
      – Dedicate on average 20-30 hours per week on their coursework
      – Balance their work and studies in a manageable way

At this time, we do not allow our students to double up on coursework.

I understand that each class is every eight weeks, but my question is; are there any breaks in between the classes or is it ongoing until you finish your degree?

I have been out of school for over 12 yrs, so I don’t have an academic recommendation.
Will my application be accepted without an academic recommendation.

I would like to begin your online MSW program January 2012. I am in the process of locating a Human Biology course online and plan to enroll immediately. With that in mind, is it too late to begin the application process for January 2012 admission.
I have a BASW from the University of Washington, School of Social Work, Seattle, WA – 1990, with a GPA of 3.2. I was on the President’s five out of six of my last quarters at the University of Washington and, needing 180 credits to graduate, have 249 total credits incuding three graduate MSW courses with 4.0, 4.0, and 3.9 GPA’s.

Long story short, please advise re the opportunity to complete application process and begin my course work 01/2012?

    Thank you so much,Jeanne

Is it possible to to take 1 or 2 semesters off during the program? (We are planning to have a second child.)

Also, are there breaks during the program or is it year-around for 4 years?
