Professionals who have social work careers may prevent child abuse
According to Child Help, a youth is abused every ten seconds in the U.S. Additionally, almost five children die daily as a result of abuse. For the kids that survive, the results of mistreatment can still be devastating. It is estimated that about one-third of female inmates and over 60 percent of individuals in drug rehabilitation centers were abused or neglected as children.
Recently, Tennessee has seen two instances of child abuse, WDEF reports. In the first case, a 5-month-old infant was shaken by a 22-year-old, who now faces charges of aggravated child abuse. During the same week, a 28-year old man was charged with showing pornography to a seven-year-old. He is now being charged with sexual exploitation of a minor.
Rhonda Jacks, a licensed clinical social worker in Tennessee, told the news outlet that it is very important for parents to talk to their children about abuse. She said that it is also crucial for parents to recognize the signs that their child may have been abused. This can include anxiety, a sudden change in behavior, acting overly aggressive or unexplained injuries.
