Social Worker Career
Social work is a diverse profession featuring a wide variety of working environments. The University of New England’s Master of Social Work online option features courses that directly address the varied landscape of social worker careers. From the clinic to the hospital, working with individuals or an entire family, a child or an adult, UNEs Master of Social Work prepares you to be a trusted leader in social work.
For many social workers, the majority of your time will be spent working in an office or residential facility. However, you may also travel for service provider or client meetings locally and regionally. Because social work is as challenging as it is rewarding, it is important to understand that under staffing and large caseloads are common and will add to the pressure in some agencies.
As a full-time social worker, you can expect to work a 40-hour week. And while not always required, it may be necessary that you work evenings and weekends to meet with clients, attend community meetings, and handle emergencies. Part-time work is often also available, particularly in voluntary, nonprofit agencies.
